Tom's Story- Actions Speak Louder Than Words

The liver community is composed of all types of people- patients, caregivers, friends and family members, researchers and medical professionals- just to name a few. And we're always impressed by the stories that people around us have to share.

One such experience comes from the CEO of the American Liver Foundation himself, Tom Nealon. Tom's history with the organization and cause goes back well over a decade. You see, Tom signed up to join our Run For Research Team and compete in the 2002 Boston Marathon. In the process, he met Zac Rue, a little boy living with Biliary Atresia, as part of our patient-runner connection. Inspired by Zac, the two became fast friends and Tom became a champion, raising over $1.5 million dollars to fight liver disease as part of his annual Boston Marathon efforts! As Tom grew more attached to the cause, he also spent more time with the organization. Tom joined our national board of directors in 2009 and became board chair in 2012. In 2015, he was elected as the American Liver Foundation Chief Executive Officer.
