Members of our Run for Research Team symbolically completed the Boston Marathon nearly three weeks after the event was the site of a shocking bombing on April 15. The Flavors of Phoenix event, which was presented by the Mayo Clinic, took place at The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa. First hosted in Phoenix in 1991 with Chef Christopher Gross (who is still involved as Co-Chairman), Flavors went on to become an annual unique culinary event and fundraiser at American Liver Foundation chapters across the nation. At this 2013 event, 34 of Arizona’s premier chefs created a unique gourmet evening for more than 400 guests. Upper Photo: Taggia at FireSky Resort won the Judge’s Choice for Table Décor. The Mt. Shasta Climb, the annual Liver Life Challenge hosted by the Northern California and Nevada Division of the American Liver Foundation, offers a ticket to stand on the summit of the second largest volcano in the United States. This worthy fundraiser for liver disease is described this way for those who are willing to train hard and make it all the way to the top: “Sweat it out with fellow climbers and encourage each other to reach the summit. We make climbing and summiting a team sport! Upper Photo: The team during the climb. Lower Photo: The climbers’ base camp.
